The Big A.S.S. Party Recap
This is a full spoiler recap of The Big A.S.S. Party, book 5.5 in Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti's Zodiac Academy series. It covers Max and Geraldine's lunar-eclipse night, the Vega twins' birthday party, Darius and Tory's Star Crossed pain, Darcy's grief over Orion, and Max asking Geraldine for something real.
Fair warning: this page spoils the major events of The Big A.S.S. Party and assumes you have read through Cursed Fates.
Book 5.5 gives the series a party detour while the main characters are still carrying the wreckage of Cursed Fates.

Max and Geraldine at the lunar eclipse party
During a lunar eclipse beach party, Max Rigel uses his Siren lure to draw Geraldine Grus toward him. Geraldine can resist his power, but she agrees to spend one night with him and temporarily set aside their political differences.
They seal the agreement with magic, fly across campus on Max's air magic, and swim in Aqua Lake, where Geraldine sees his Siren form.
The night ends in Max's room in Aqua House, with Geraldine taking control and tying him up with vines. The encounter makes it harder for Max to treat his pursuit of Geraldine like a game.
Geraldine plans the twins' birthday
Months later, it is Darcy and Tory's birthday on June 11. Geraldine has spent six months planning an enormous surprise party, including a miniature Palace of Souls built with earth magic.
The Heirs' own attempt at a party is abandoned once Geraldine's production takes over. Mildred Canopus blackmails her way onto the guest list, so the Heirs trap her in an ice prison by using shirtless, oiled Darius as bait.
Darius is miserable through the party because he and Tory are Star Crossed. He cannot touch her without the stars striking back, and he is still expected to marry Mildred after graduation.
The Vega twins get their first real party
When Darcy and Tory arrive, they accidentally insult everyone by thanking Geraldine for keeping things small, not realizing hundreds of guests are hidden. Tory saves the moment by pretending they knew all along.
Darius gives Tory a charm bracelet with a rose-quartz dragon to symbolize that he belongs to her. When Tory kisses him, the Star Crossed curse triggers an earthquake.
Darcy is still heartbroken over Orion being in Darkmore. Geraldine tries to cheer her up by turning Seth into a giant turnip. Seth retaliates by turning Geraldine into a buttery bagel, which finally makes Darcy laugh.
The party continues with huge cakes shaped like the twins, Seth mooning the crowd, Max and Geraldine sneaking away, and fireworks painting the Vegas' faces across the sky. Tory quietly tells Darius this is their first birthday party ever.
Max asks for more
The next morning, Max asks Geraldine to be his girlfriend. Geraldine refuses through tears because she has already agreed to marry Justin Masters after graduation as a political match for the Vegas' cause.
Geraldine challenges Max to bend the knee to the Vegas if he truly wants her. Max refuses, but he proposes a different bargain: they spend the two years until graduation together, while he tries to change her mind.
Geraldine is tempted but afraid. Max leaves determined to make her fall hard enough that she cannot marry anyone else, even if it means risking his own heart.
