After the Phoenix reveal

Shadow Princess opens after Lionel Acrux forces Darcy and Tory into the shadows and the twins emerge with their true Order revealed: Phoenixes, not Fire Harpies.

The reveal is enormous because Phoenixes have not been seen in Solaria for more than a thousand years. Darius takes the twins to a treehouse sanctuary at King's Hollow, where they realize the shadow ritual has infected not only them, but also Darius and Orion.

The group agrees to keep the twins' true Order secret. Phoenixes may be more powerful than any living Fae, and Lionel cannot be allowed to understand what Darcy and Tory really are.

Gabriel Nox and Phoenix training

The twins begin learning what Phoenix power means. Their fire can draw from the sun, destroy matter, sever spells, burn through Coercion, resist memory probes, and hurt creatures normally resistant to flame, including Dragons and Hydras.

Gabriel Nox arrives as the new Tarot teacher and becomes an important secret ally. He has seen visions of the twins as Phoenixes and helps tutor them without exposing them in regular Order Enhancement classes.

Gabriel's arrival gives the twins a better route into understanding their power, but it also reinforces that the stars and visions around them are getting harder to ignore.

Shadow magic is addictive

Because Lionel's ritual left shadow magic inside them, Darcy and Tory train secretly with Orion and Darius at Air Cove. They learn that shadows are euphoric, addictive, and dangerous.

To practice safely, a shadow-touched Fae needs an anchor with a strong emotional bond. Darcy and Tory choose to anchor each other instead of relying on Darius or Orion.

Diego reveals more about his family's dark magic connections, including his grandmother's soul being bound to his hat and his uncle's work for Lionel Acrux.

Relationships get more dangerous

Darcy and Orion's secret romance keeps deepening, even as the risk grows. Tory and Darius remain volatile, drawn together and furious with each other in equal measure.

At a Halloween party, Tory dresses as a Pegasus, which pushes Caleb to end their intimate relationship. Seth discovers Darcy and Orion's relationship and uses it for blackmail, forbidding Darcy from telling Tory.

The secrecy creates a real rift between the sisters. Tory feels alone in a way she rarely has before, while Darcy is forced to keep obeying Seth's demands to protect Orion.

The Halloween party fallout

The Halloween party in the Earth Caverns becomes another public disaster. The Heirs use potions to make Darcy hallucinate ravens and Tory behave in a way that damages her reputation.

The attack threatens the twins socially and politically, but they push back through a successful counter-campaign with Tyler Corbin's help.

The moment matters because the twins are learning that public narrative is another battleground in Solaria. Power is not only magic; it is reputation, image, and who controls the story.

Clara Orion is alive in the shadows

Darcy and Diego make contact with Clara, Orion's supposedly dead sister, in the Shadow Realm. Clara calls herself the Shadow Princess and asks for help escaping.

For Orion, Clara's existence is devastating and irresistible. The possibility that his sister can be saved becomes one of the book's most dangerous emotional hooks.

But Clara has been trapped in the Shadow Realm for years, and what comes back may not be the sister Orion remembers.

The Palace of Souls

Darcy and Tory return to the Palace of Souls for Christmas. They discover their mother's rooms and several mysterious artifacts, including two rings and a Tarot card hinting at hidden palace secrets.

The twins are forced into holiday hosting around the ruling Heirs and their families, and Lionel pushes the idea that they should abdicate their claim to the throne.

A Nymph attack forces the twins to reveal their Phoenix power publicly, changing the political calculation around them. They are no longer only rumored threats. Their power is visible.

Tory rejects the Divine Moment

Tory and Darius experience their Divine Moment during a snowstorm. The stars align Leo and Gemini, marking them as fated mates.

Darius pleads with Tory and finally lays more of himself bare, but Tory cannot accept a bond with someone who hurt her so deeply. She chooses to reject the Divine Moment.

The rejection turns them Star Crossed. Black rings appear around their pupils, marking the fate they have refused and the pain that will follow them.

Tory's rejection of the Divine Moment is one of the series' defining heartbreaks.

Darcy and Orion rescue Clara

At the same time, Darcy and Orion attempt to rescue Clara from the Shadow Realm. They succeed in bringing her back, but Clara is not fully herself.

She has become a vessel for shadows with no blood of her own. After returning to the physical world, Clara attacks Orion, drains his blood, stabs him, and escapes into the night.

The book ends with Darcy desperately trying to keep Orion alive. He makes her promise to work with the Heirs and claim the throne, tying his survival and Solaria's future to a choice Darcy may not be ready to make.

Shadow Princess ends with Orion's life hanging in the balance after Clara's return.
